An Organic Baby Blanket is not a Fad but a Necessity |
Besides safety precautions related to sizes, placement of crib rods, mattresses and quality of materials used for cribs, other bedding and bedding accessories are also items that need to be considered while ensuring the complete safety of your child.
Your baby is likely to remain in the crib and be in contact with the mattress, sheets and blankets for a large part of the day during the first year of his life. That makes it imperative for you to devote some time to gather information from whatever source you can and arm yourself with the safety precautions necessary for the healthy growth of your baby.
Most people are not aware of the bad effects of synthetic products of daily household use. Synthetic materials and fabrics are cheaper than organic products but at the same they give out emissions that can be extremely harmful, especially to babies. Even natural cotton products are sometimes treated with formaldehyde, which can cause respiratory problems for babies. Log on to the internet and look for a website for organic crib comforters or quilts and you will be surprised to find how much harm a cheap synthetic blanket can cause to your baby.
There are different types of baby blankets that you may want for your baby:
- Receiving blankets to swaddle your baby in
- Blanket sleepers and wearable blankets
- Crib comforters
Whatever the style or design of the blanket that you may choose, you should not compromise on the material that goes in to make baby blankets. Organic blankets are a much better option as compared to similar blankets made from a synthetic material. The word organic is applied to foods, cottons and woolens that are produced, manufactured and processed without chemicals, pesticides, radiation and any other form of artificial intervention.
An organic cotton or woolen baby blanket is totally safe, ensuring an undisturbed sleep that is conducive to healthy growth. Even when buying down crib comforters and sheets, you should pay special attention to the following attributes:
- The cover of the comforter and sheets should be either organic cotton flannel or untreated cotton percale.
- The fill should meet the standards set by government for washing away dust and allergens.
Remember that unless the residual industrial toxins are totally removed, even organic stores can provide a minimal guarantee. There may come a time when our future generations will be able to enjoy a totally clean atmosphere. If we can create a strong consumer demand for organic products, that day should not be far.
